ABP Poland wins World’s Best Steak Award
ABP Poland has been announced as the overall winner of the World Steak Challenge 2017. The winning product is a sirloin grain-fed Limousin cross aged to 29 months and matured for 14 days. The company was also awarded a gold medal for its Polish rib-eye product. ABP Poland is part of ABP Food Group and operates three facilities located at Klosowice, Pniewy and Tykocin, employing over 400 people.
ABP Food Group collected a total of eleven awards including the overall World’s Best Steak award and three overall category winners for World Best Rib Eye steak, World Best Sirloin Steak and World Best Grain Fed Steak. The company also received seven medal awards including two gold medal awards, two silver medal and three bronze medal awards. The annual competition saw 17 countries and 25 breeds represented with more than 210 entries across all categories.
Chair of judging panel, Mario Peerdeman said of ABP’s World Best Steak: “It was a very tidy entry with great marbling with a leafy trim. The taste was great, it was rich but different. It looks a bit like a Wagyu but once you taste it, you realise it’s not.”
Commenting on the awards, Piotr Gizinski, ABP Poland said: “We are honoured to have received such an accolade, it is an endorsement of our unique Ultra Tender Process and an acknowledgement for the hard work and dedication of all our team in Poland.”
This announcement follows from ABP’s quadruple win at the prestigious Brussels based International Taste and Quality Institute (iTQi) Awards where the company received three golden star awards for its Tipperary Dry Aged Black Angus Rib Eye Steak and Hereford Dry Aged Rib Eye Steak products. ABP’s Hereford Dry Aged Striploin Steak and Tipperary Dry Aged Black Angus Striploin Steak received two golden star awards.
The World Steak Challenge is organised by Global Meat News with products judged in both raw and cooked form by an expert panel of judges against internationally agreed criteria. Judges for the blind tasting included top UK, European and Australian chefs, butchers, food writers, meat scientists, authors and trade personnel.
